When are you open?

The Castle and Gardens are open on Sundays only.  The Gardens open at 12noon and first entry to the Castle is 1pm.

Can I buy tickets on arrival?

No all tickets must be purchased online before the visit.

Do I need to print my tickets?

You can either print your tickets or show them on your phone or device.

Can I arrive at a different time than what is on my ticket?

If you have purchased a Castle & Gardens and ticket your entry time is printed on your ticket. You have access to the gardens before and after your allotted Castle tour. The Gardens close at 5:30pm.

What time do you close?

The Final entry slot for the Castle is 4pm.  Final Entry to the Gardens is 4:30pm. The Gardens close at 5:30pm.

I'm a Historic Houses member, how do I organise tickets?

You can order your ticket online as normal. A Historic Houses ticket is listed as an option, please select this and add your membership number when prompted. You will need to show your membership card on arrival to validate the tickets. If you cannot show your membership card on arrival you will be charged an entry fee.

I am an English Heritage Member, do I get a discount?

The Castle is not an English Heritage property and therefore we do not offer a concessionary rate. 

Is there an onsite car park?

Yes, this a large onsite car park which is a five minute walk from the Castle.  There are a small number of accessible car parking spaces also available. Please ask for directions to this car park on arrival.

Do I have to pay for parking?

No, car parking is included in your admission ticket.

I have a question about access in the Castle and Gardens, what should I do?

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are welcome in the gardens on a lead to our usual open days.  A water bowl is available in the Courtyard.

I have an infant, do they need a ticket?

All children 3 and under will receive free entry. You will need to purchase a complimentary ticket for them through the online system.

Can I buy something to eat at the Castle?

Yes, our Outdoor courtyard tea room is open from 12am - 4:30pm on our open days.  A menu can be found here.

Afternoon Teas and Children's Picnic Bags can be purchased through the online system when buying entry tickets. These must be pre-ordered in advance. Tickets for these will be on sale until 12noon on a Friday prior to the open day.

Can I bring a picnic?

Yes you are more than welcome to bring your own picnic to have in the gardens.  We ask that all rubbish is disposed of in the bins provided or taken home with you.

Does the Castle have seating?

We have picnic benches by the visitor car park, however you are welcome to either sit on the grass or bring a camping chair.  There are also  benches spaced around the gardens for those who struggle to walk longer distances.

There is seating in the Castle courtyard for the outdoor tea room.

I have booked a visit to the Castle, does this include entry to the Gardens?

Yes, if you have booked a Castle and Gardens ticket this includes entry to the Gardens throughout the day. The gardens are open from 12noon - 5:30pm. Final entry is 4pm.
